Shif-T Da NightChild answers to movement questions

What band do you play for?: Formerly Nasty Gang, Malenium band, & Pure Elegance
Position in GoGo: Lead Rapper
How long have you been supporting Go-Go music?: I’m a city girl from DC, so I grew up on GoGo music. GoGo music has always been a part of my life. I came from a family of musicians. My mom played keyboards, my dad played lead guitar, and my brother plays the bass guitar. My brother is Bass Face and he is one of the original players of familiar faces, and he has played with Lil Benny, Chuck Brown, and Pure Elegance Band. I’ve also, written songs for other artists , bands, and for Pure Elegance most infamous song “Put ya one leg up”.
What do you think makes GoGo music unique?: GoGo is unique because it transforms all styles of music, and adds its own twist on it using variety of live instrumentation.
What was your first experience with GoGo music?: My first experience with GoGo was epic. It was something to see how all those live instruments coming together could create such an embracing sound. Hearing GoGo will definitely make you tap into the sounds of the motherland in Africa and show you where all the elements stemmed from and has been built upon for years.
Who are your musical influences? What or who inspires you?: My musical influences is Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne. My mom is my greatest inspiration, because she always pushed ahead no matter what came along her path. I’m all about any, and everything that allows me to be creative without being placed in a box and set boundaries.
What has been your favorite performance so far?: My favorite performances was when, I was with Nasty Gang band and we performed for Chuck Brown for his birthday. It was a such a honor being in the presence of a legend. Also, when Miss Spice & I performed backup for Lil Benny and he let me rap at his show and showed me how to really freak the tambourine.
What is the most difficult thing about being a woman in GoGo?: It’s hard being taken serious due to the industry being mostly male dominated, and a lot of people tend to believe in the stigma that all women come with a lot of drama. All females don’t move the same way, and some of us are actually about our business, and can handle adversity in a professional manner.
What has been your biggest music/GoGo career highlight so far?: My biggest highlight in my career so far has been that my FirePower The Buried Tresure Ep streamed 500k and reached gold, and ‘ve been able to orchestrate my own brand of Vodka Called Le’feu Redd Phoenix.
Do you have any advice for aspiring female artists?: I would tell all females to stay true to yourself, and to not to give in to industry perceptions of what they think you should be.
What is your brand/company if any? (your business or brand): I’m the CEO of Phade 2 Green Prodz., ReddZone Radio, and the owner of Le’feu Redd Phoenix Vodka.
When you perform and the audience sings along, how does that energy make you feel?: I love being able to welcome others into my world, and have my audience and supporters chime in with me.
Are any of your songs based on real events or people we might know? If so, can you tell us more about them without giving away too many details about the song itself?: No, I write songs that are universal, and that so many can relate to.
What do you think is the most significant barrier to female movement?: The biggest barrier is females not being able to come together and work as a team, and instead looking at one another as competition.
